Mayor Chris Jensen and the Noblesville Chamber of Commerce held an intimate, socially-distant breakfast at Matteo’s Ristorante Italiano on Friday morning to honor former Congresswoman Susan Brooks and her eight years serving Indiana’s Fifth District.
As part of the breakfast celebration, Jensen proclaimed it “Congresswoman Susan W. Brooks Day” in the City of Noblesville. Congresswoman Brooks’ strong background in both the public and private sectors began in 1998 when she served as Deputy Mayor of Indianapolis.
“Congresswoman Brooks has seen Noblesville in our great days and some of our harder ones during her time in office. We greatly appreciate her efforts toward the improvement of the quality of life for our residents in Noblesville and others throughout the state and country,” Mayor Jensen said. “We hold the deepest respect for Susan and we are lucky to have her as a pillar in our community.”
Jensen also had the honor of presenting Brooks with the Sagamore of the Wabash Award from Gov. Eric Holcomb. The award is the highest honor bestowed by the governor and is a personal tribute usually given to those who have rendered a distinguished service to the state or to the governor.
The Noblesville Chamber gave Brooks a "Piece of Noblesville" with a Star Brick with a plaque to thank her for her service to the community and its businesses.
"Over her eight years in Congress, Representative Brooks always made herself accessible to our community and always eager to have dialog about issues that impact Noblesville. She has made a significant impact on the Noblesville community and we wanted to present her an iconic Noblesville Star Brick to symbolize how iconic her presence has been in our city,” said Noblesville Chamber of Commerce President Bob DuBois.
In 2012, Brooks was elected to represent the Indiana Fifth District and served four two-year terms. Prior to her time in Washington, D.C., Brooks was appointed as the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Indiana by President George W. Bush from 2001 to 2007.
